What you will do

Summary of Functions

  • The role of the Director of Engineering is to be the leader of ASC’s mechanical electrical field and planning engineering teams and to oversee all engineering activities including people processes and procedures.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of ASC’s engineering activities.
  • In charge of planning execution auditing analyzing and improving ASC’s engineering processes.
  • Focuses on engineering process efficiency including setting rules for execution of designs and drawings systems to make component selection faster and easier.
  • Created standardizations of components autoclaves and ovens.
  • Drives standards into the sales process and the engineering design process to reduce the design hours of the departments.
  • Standards are to be defined and documented in user-friendly tables Appward Articles work aids and other useful formats.
  • Assess the structure of the engineering departments and make proposals for improvements with the goal of reducing bureaucracy and increasing the pace of decision making.
  • Coaches mentors and leads the engineering managers and teams to continuously learn grow and become better engineers.
  • Ensures that engineers receive enough supervision and guidance to successfully carry out their assigned project especially projects that require an extensive amount of new engineering.
  • Oversee engineering analysis and validation for ASC mechanical and electrical designs to assure internal and external spec compliance safety proper function and manufacturability.
  • Addresses costly and recurring non-conformities by requiring staff to perform root-cause analysis and execute permanent corrective actions.
  • Verifies that improvements have the desired outcomes by assigning or performing follow-up audits.
  • Oversee resource loading hiring evaluating terminating promoting and developing staff.
  • Direct engineering training validating training effectiveness and providing feedback and support as needed to those learning the material.
  • Analyzes product functionality as well as cost efficiency to discover possible improvements.
  • Participates as senior technical manager during customer visits/phone calls and at 3-rd party audits such as ISO and ASME audits.
  • Oversee the functions of ASC’s document control department.
  • Participates in corporate strategy meetings
  • Participate in weekly production meeting with upper-management and relevant managers
  • Participates in weekly engineering staff meetings for mechanical electrical and controls
  • Participates in bi-monthly manager’s meetings

Organizational Relationships

  • Reports to company Vice President.
  • Works closely with other management especially engineering planning production quality control field operations and purchasing.

  • Must have excellent communication skills both verbal and written as well as outstanding interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
  • Positive attitude and can-do approach are a must.
  • Strong Project Management skills are necessary as most of ASC’s engineering staff acts as project managers and are working on active customer orders with stated milestone and delivery dates.
  • Computer efficiency and MS Office Suite proficiency as well as the ability to operate electronic document management systems is mandatory to be successful at this job.
  • Candidate must be able to type at least 45 wpm.

Requirements

  • Educational and work experience prerequisites include:
  • Masters’ degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • PE license is preferred
  • MBA is a plus
  • Must have at least 10 years of verifiably successful work experience in a leadership role where sound and independent decision making interdepartmental collaboration strong problem-solving skills analytical skills research skills and thorough judgment are required in day to day activities.
