Mechanical Engineer III
What you will do
Summary of Position
- Responsible for the project management design and manufacture of process equipment orders.
- Operates at a high level for a minimum of 8 years as a Mechanical Engineer.
- Demonstrates ability to work independently exhibits good ASC values as well as leadership skills.
- Must be a subject-matter expert in specific areas of mechanical engineering and exhibit the aptitude for leading engineering teams and developing training for new mechanical engineers.
- May be assigned to act as mechanical engineering mentor by manager.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
- High level design and modeling of complex custom processing equipment including ovens autoclaves bridges transport equipment and automations.
- Responsible for project management and engineering functions for assigned equipment orders.
- Follows ASC’s M.E.P. (mechanical engineering process) including adhering to process steps and process-related policies.
- Independently engineers and designs autoclaves and custom process systems assuring that equipment meets all customer and regulatory mandates.
- Responsible for creating Bill of Materials utilizing OMS data base and overseeing timely procurement of materials for assigned projects.
- Generates design approval and fabrication level drawings using 2-D and 3-D design software.
- Releases drawings to fabrication team.
- Works closely with and advises fabrication team as needed during construction of equipment.
- Generates and regularly updates Project Schedules and Design Documents for assigned projects using various software packages including MS Project Word Excel and Access.
- Communicates with customers regarding product design project schedule project progress equipment fabrication installation customer training equipment acceptance and addresses all customer questions and concerns.
- Acts as project champion with various departments to facilitate timely cost-efficient and accurate purchasing fabrication testing installation start-up training and/or repair of products.
- Evaluates existing designs/processes for possible improvements in design cost efficiency and reliability.
- DUTIES SPECIFIC TO LEVEL III
- Responsible for multi-million dollar projects and may supervise teams of engineers in the execution of project tasks.
- Develop meeting presentations and lead multi-person meetings with ASC and customer personnel at customer’s site or at ASC via web meeting.
- Travel to customer sites periodically to assess logistics utilities existing equipment for purposes of new designs or new business opportunities.
- Evaluate performance and work product of subordinate engineers and provide feedback to management for reviews.

- EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/WORK EXPERIENCE :
- Requires Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 8+ year’s work experience as a Mechanical Engineer required.
- Must be able to independently perform and fully understand all engineering analysis required to design custom process control equipment.
- Must be able to solve design problems using creativity and ingenuity.
- Must be subject matter expert and demonstrate the aptitude and efficiency in design and modeling of complex equipment.
- Areas of expertise: mechanical engineering design machine design statics dynamics strength of materials numeric analysis thermodynamics fluid mechanics heat transfer and 3-D design modeling.
- Prefer someone who is an expert in use of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) as a tool in verifying their designs.
- Must have at least 8 years of modeling experience and be considered an expert at Solidworks or Inventor.
- Must have working knowledge of Autocad.
- Must be competent performing a wide variety of analysis’ including mechanical and thermal induced deflection and deformation stress &
- strain volume pressure temperature air flow horsepower storage capacity thermal capacities pump sizing fan and duct sizing heat transfer and more.
- Must be able to independently organize work-load multi-task prioritize and use sound judgment.
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as previous project management experience or formal project management training.
- Additional desired area of expertise: ASME code VBA programming.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to spend extensive amounts of time sitting working on a computer or phone.
- Must be able to spend limited amounts of time safely in a heavy manufacturing environment that is not air-conditioned and has exposure to noise and dust/particles caused by welding and other fabrication activities associated with the production of industrial process equipment.
- PPE will be required including hard hats steel-toed shoes protective glasses and ear protection.
- Additional protective devices are required when appropriate for a given task including protective gloves.
- Must be able to climb stairs.
- Position requires the ability to identify and distinguish colors on engineering drawings design documents and project schedules (i.e. redlines etc.)
